Nakanohito Genome [Jikkyouchuu] · review
*pretty much no spoilers Ignoring the currently long awaited hiatus, this manga alone is pretty unique. It has both psychological and survival game aspects and even complex plot along with plot twists. Therefore, I’ll rank what stood out to me and hopefully anyone who reads this will give it a read. Characters: 6/10 Starting with the protagonist, Akatsuki, him alone is already very mysterious yet easy to understand. Compassionate, fun, interesting; yet, obviously hiding something. The rest of the characters also are very unique with their own personalities and heavily built back stories. I see a common factor with siblings being the mainissue that impacts the characters but of course there is many more aspects that build them heavily. Character development is even shown along with the dynamics to affect future situations. And although they are well written, there are some issues I still see with the characters. The ages are huge, because the author hasn’t specified the ages of the characters, it’s hard to tell what their maturity difference is or whether the whole story is targeting a certain age group. The ages get more confusing down the line but we won’t get into that. Not only that, we have unnecessary weird aspects to characters like making half of them heavily perverted (although I’m aware this is in almost every story but them all most likely being teenagers weirds me out with it).
Plot: 7/10
To be honest, its hard to keep track with where the plot is going, but it gets more easier to understand father down the line. I think the beginning was a bit too much filler chapters and less plot.
Pacing: 8/10
I’m a huge fan of the pacing. The beginning was more like an introduction to where the characters were and what they were doing but not much later on it goes deeper into the plot of the story. Not only that, backstories, development, and arcs don’t take too much time but instead, just the right amount of time.
Art: 10/10
I’m personally a huge fan of the art of this story. Not only is it cute and enjoyable, but you can see the different features between the characters.
Overall: 8/10
I think if you like the psychological + survival game plot then this is for you. Maybe even slice of life but only ever so slightly. This story also has a handful of plot twists which will continue to keep you interesting. Of course, it’s not for everyone, but I think this story will stand out to a very specific audience.
