It's a story that tries to tell so many things at the same time. It tells a story that blurs the line between scifi and supernatural horror. But it also tells a story about small town mentality and putting the group's importance over the individual. It also tells a growing up story about a youth drifting by herself in that small town. So many things are being told, so many things could go wrong. So when the end result becomes this consistent...I must appreciate the hard work twofold. The mood is unnerving, the characters varied and intense. The narrative manages to balance between moments of WTF horror andmoments where it's just people's flawed hearts working with and against each other.
Not to say everything works, though. There is a corporate/secret research angle that I feel is the weakest link in this story, and there are moments where the constant shift between perspective and issues sort of distracts from the ongoing narrative.
