Review of Demon Lord 2099
This is probably the best 7/10 anime I’ve watched. Not because it barely missed being rounded up to an 8 with a 7.49, but because it did many things very well, but somehow remained a solid 7/10. The anime has great visuals, a strong soundtrack, good world-building, a decent plot, and likeable characters. The MC isn’t overpowered, but his intelligence, wisdom, and experience shine as he quickly—yet realistically—adapts to the cyberpunk setting. Unlike traditional "demon lord fantasies," he doesn’t rise to power through nepotism or sheer strength alone but by using his abilities strategically. This would make it seem like the anime deserves an8 or even 9/10, but it falls short in one key area: enjoyment.
Despite a well-paced story, the anime feels slow and sometimes even dull—even at 1.25x speed. The art style is detailed and beautiful, but the combat animations are underwhelming, overall making the show feel more like a fantasy slice-of-life, which I doubt was the intention.
