Review of Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord

I was excited for this series to get an anime since I had read the LN back when J Novel club was translating it. Overall it’s a faithful adaption of the first volume expect for the ending. Little details were cut here and there and some things were combined but it was still good. They kind of can’t properly adapt the later volumes though with how they changed the ending, so it’s unlikely there will be a season 2. Personally I prefer the LN ending more because it leaves things open for the rest of the story to take place, but I do like howthis ending mostly ties up everything neatly so there aren’t cliff hangers anime only people are left with. I think it really could have benefitted from a 13th episode just to help add in more depth and so the ending wasn’t rushed but using 12 episodes to adapt a single volume is still generous since many adaptations of things really try to rush through a volume in a few episodes. The CGI was a bit jarring at times but I’ve seen worse. The opening song was great. I’d recommend this if you are just looking for a nice 12 episode show with an actual ending, where you aren’t left with a cliffhanger you have to go to the source material to resolve.
