Qi Refining for 3000 Years · review
This show was ok, fine for some quick amusement, though not the kind to draw you in. The main character is overpowered (which is what the entire story is about) and there are some decent plotlines and intrigues he needs to deal with. When I watched this, I was not familiar yet with the whole cultivation/immortality thing. The cultivation path is pretty central to this story and a lot of the terms they used were extremely confusing. They make no attempt to explain any of it. I guess you’re supposed to just be familiar with all the xianxia tropes and how thesystem generally works.
It all contributes to my feeling that nobody tried too hard to make this show a masterpiece.
There is a great thumping soundtrack, though. Slightly out of place, but great.
The characters are likeable enough. I can’t tell if the show is sexist or not. I would watch a second season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if no second season is forthcoming. Something about this show just doesn’t quite stick out… I like the characters and storyline but don’t love them, and it wasn’t too hard to move on after I finished the last episode.
