Review of Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld Part 2
This show is a dreadful conclusion to a pretty decent story. I actually really liked Alicization and the first season of war of the underworld, but all the bad parts of those parts and the rest of SAO come back here in full swing. Basically, the first half of the show is pure fanservice with no plot progression at all. A lot of familiar faces from previous SAO series (mostly Kirito's harem) come back, do one cool thing, get completely bodied and do nothing else. Only once the messiah, God King Kirito awakens, does the ball start rolling again. Our brick wall of a main antagonistis finally defeated in an "epic" battle with Kirito that completely ignores all the rules laid down in previous seasons.
Afterward, Kirito does the thing and the day is saved!
But for some reason the show goes on for three more episodes. It primarily takes place in the real world and it's a hiuge drag. Nothing of worth happens, this whole part could have been condensed into 1 episode. And the pay-off is this putrid star wars looking epilogue with the laziest sequel baiting I've ever seen.
My main problem with this show is this:
All of the new characters we got to know in Alicization, excluding Alice, get reduced to background fodder. Instead the focus is put on the characters from previous seasons, awful characters I never gave a shit about. All the world-building done previously gets thrown completely out of the window for a childish spectacle (which admittedly looks good).
It feels like all the investment I have put in the previous 30 episodes has been taken and thrown in the trash.
Fuck this show.
P.S. They really did my boy Eugeo dirty. He was the best SAO character ever made and they turned him into "character development" for Kirito. By the end of it, only 2 people seem to remember him and that's a damn shame.
