Review of Astra Lost in Space

Such a fun, thrilling, heartfelt, and enjoyable ride this show was. The beginning felt very simple and the characters kinda annoying which made me hesitate continuing but I'm so glad I did because of the huge payoff. It was full of twists and turns with an ending like lotr; a sweet and satisfying conclusion of a long journey that continues after the book ends. It's the type of story where the further you go along the more context you have for what was going on in the beginning of the show. For the first few episodes some people's behaviors felt jarring in how melodramatic orover the top they were. But over the course of the show you develop more understanding of each person's worldview and reasoning and how it effects their situation. Then you get the pleasure to watch them grow as people overcoming where they started.

I also really loved how gripping and surprising the show was while promoting a hopeful message. It's definitely a "the power of friendship will save the day" kinda show but the stakes still feel real and there are dark psychological twists. Whenever I would catch on to an upcoming twist the reveal would somehow go deeper down a rabbit hole than I ever would've guessed. This felt like a fleshed out world with fleshed out characters that fit well within it.

Some may be disappointed with the light-hearted tone of the show and feel it ruins what could be a much darker story. But that's why I rated it so highly; it could've taken the easy route of being a story that destroy it's characters as they break down more and more but instead it asked each character "Can you keep moving forward for your own sake?" Over and over again til they each had a personalized answer.

It was a fun ride and a perfect one season completed story.
