Review of Devilman: Crybaby

I actually had no idea that this was an adaptation, so keep that in mind while reading my opinion on this lol So... I liked Devilman Crybaby, BUT. I still feel like I need to comment on a few things. 1) Art The art is sooooo ugly, to be quite honest. I know that some people might have enjoyed it, but I just thought it looked like a student's first project made on flash lol 2) Some things are badly explained (or never explained at all) For example: how do the humans become devilmen? At first I thought it was a one time only thing, then A LOT of humanswere turned into demons and I thought "I must have missed the explanation about this".

The actual explanation given by the villain is so... meh. I feel like it's way more than just that, but that's never really explored.

3) Lost potential
We're introduced to a badass female demon and we're led to believe that she's going to have an important role. Eh... let's just say (without giving spoilers) that: NOPE. Her entire potential is wasted.

4) Relies on shock value way too much
I feel like only part of the actual plot was planned and the other half they were like "okay, what else do we do?" and someone said "meh, I dunno, just throw a lot of sex and gore into the audience's faces. They love that stuff!"

I mean... granted... I DO love that stuff. But I also love plot.

5) Predictability
The villain is absolutely predictable. I mean, take a look at the poster. Can you spot him? Yeah, I'm sure you can. And if you can't, don't worry, you'll figure it out in the first few minutes of the pilot!

Who knows, maybe I'm just too picky. But hey, even with all of my pickiness, I still really enjoyed the soundtrack and the anime overall! I think it's a nice anime for you to watch if you don't have anything else to do. You know, just for fun.
