Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Anohana is the story about the ghost of a little girl resurfacing to communicate with and bring together all of her bestfriends. This story was one of the most heart wrenching and well crafted works of art the industry has put out. The premise isn't the best part about this anime: it's the execution. Giving depth to the changes Menma's death caused to all of the characters and watching them come together and confront the emotions they have harboured for so long makes this show a very pleasing watch. I truly don't see how anyone can't see that. Some say that this show is "melodramatic". Well, how else is anyone, especially teenagers, supposed to react to the reopening of the wound that was caused by the death of one of their best childhood friends? I don't quite understand how someone can seriously make a comment like that, as though this death is nothing to cry about. And for those of you who have not watched the anime, trust me, the tears are well placed. I'm sure anyone would cry about the death of someone dear to them, especially if they have feelings of guilt or unresolved conflicts mixed in. This anime, however, does not over do it. I just wanted to make that clear.
