This was a very interesting webtoon. Perhaps it's because the author went through with the story with such clear intentions that made it all the more impactful. My Reason to Die deviates from the typical by stringing a series of mundane events to elicit strong emotions from the readers. It is a story that wouldn't have worked if the characters weren't fleshed out and lovable, but the author made sure to fill that criteria before stabbing the readers right out front. The most remarkable thing about this story for me is how it is unnecessary cruel, and how incredibly flawed the characters are. Ji-O, our maincharacter, is absolutely stubborn- a core characteristic that serves a double-edged sword. It is this trait that drives this story to its core, and it is a flaw that you would hate and love about her at the same time.

I think writing flaws within a character is a difficult thing to do. You could either downplay it or overplay out of proportion that it makes the character unlikeable. However, the characters of My Reason to Die are authentically written- making the entire story all the more riveting. Ji-O, while stubborn, shines with her strong-will. Gyeol, while playful and mostly detached, tends to attract trouble and pity with his dedication. Even the side characters that don't appear much has substance within, and it's this writing that makes the story so frustratingly good. I'd go as far to say that it was the characters that ultimately carried the story, which isn't far off from the truth because this webtoon is heavily character-centric.

I was mostly able to predict the twist by the middle of this story, but it was the characters' awkwardly navigating through their set of troubles that really made that twist slap. It's good writing- to have your Easter eggs predicted yet still a surprise. I am still deliberating whether I liked the ending or not, but I do think this was a story worth remembering. It is definitely not a story written to be loved by everyone, but it is that kind of dedication to detail that made it such a great story for me.

9/10, I would give anything to erase this from my memory and ride this rollercoaster again.
