Is the story unique? Unfortunately… yes. It was definitely unique. But not in a good way. More like “what did I just read and why am I emotionally damaged” unique. It wasn’t predictable because I genuinely didn’t expect it to go that far. And even when I tried to tell myself “okay maybe it’ll get better,” it just… didn’t. I like dark BL. I can handle angst. I can handle messy relationships. But this wasn’t angst. It was trauma. Then more trauma. And then somehow even more trauma. And no, I didn’t enjoy it just because I like the genre. I’m a BIG BL fan. I lovecomplicated dynamics, emotional intensity, power struggles all of it. But this just ISN’T Boy’s Love. There’s a difference between toxic romance and straight-up assault being framed like it’s romantic. That’s not edgy. That’s not deep. That’s just uncomfortable.

Art style?
The art style actually fit the tone, which makes it worse. It was intense, dramatic, sometimes even beautiful — and that contrast made everything hit harder. Visually, it wasn’t bad. If anything, the art is probably what tricks people into starting it. But good art can’t fix a story that feels morally off.

Were the characters well-rounded?
No. They weren’t layered in a meaningful way. One character felt written to overpower everything without real consequences, and the other felt like they existed just to suffer. That’s not depth. That’s imbalance. Flaws are fine. Messy characters are fine. But when someone’s entire personality revolves around being cruel and it’s not properly addressed, that’s not complexity it’s lazy writing disguised as “dark.”

Did they react realistically?
Honestly? Not really. The emotional reactions felt off. Situations that should’ve caused real consequences just… didn’t. It felt like trauma was used as a plot device instead of something serious.

Will others enjoy it?
I genuinely don’t know. Some people might call it “dark romance” and defend it. But I think a lot of people especially actual BL fans will feel uncomfortable. There’s a line between exploring unhealthy relationships and romanticizing assault. This crossed it.

I tried to continue. I REALLY tried. But at some point it stopped being shocking and just became exhausting.

Trauma.
Then trauma.
Then more trauma.
Did I mention trauma?
