Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Net-juu no Susume is a romance anime that puts its own particular twist on the romance genre by incorporating aspects of online gaming which aims to bond the MCs in the anime. With each episode becoming increasingly pleasurable to watch, i found myself entranced by the series and letting out occasional romance squeals because of how cute the romance developed. However, with it being an anime that only has 10 episodes, there would be imminent flaws such as a lack of character development which would be further discussed in the points to come. Story: 8/10 I'll start off with the execution of the plot and then moveon to evaluating the content of the plot itself. Net-juu no Susume had a pretty rocky start IMOin terms of execution and i found myself cringing a lot at episode 1 and nearly wanted to drop the series. However, due to this anime being a friend's recommendation, i continued watching the series and it definitely improved and i eventually got hooked onto the series. Execution of the plot became more professional and less awkward, which led to it being less cringy.
Moving on to the plot itself, with it being a romance anime, it was imminent that its plot would be predictable to satisfy the fangirls and fanboys of the romance. However, this shouldn't turn you away from watching this series because I honestly believe that for romance and SOL animes its not really about the plot but rather the execution of the series and the lessons we can derive from the series. After all, there has not been any ground breaking romance series that incorporated amazing plot twists and actually has interesting content like the currently trending Isekai genre. So judging the anime's plot relative to other romance animes, it did pretty ok.
With that said, i'd focus on grading the series' story by its execution rather than its plot, and because it picked itself up and became pretty well executed from episode 2 onwards, I'm giving its story an 8/10.
Art: 9/10
Honestly its art is one of its strongest factors, with attractive looking characters like Sakurai Yuta himself and Morioka Moriko(With make-up on), pleasantly colored backgrounds that are light on the eyes, and ample detail to facial expressions, i'd say it did pretty well on art.
Sound: 6/10
The opening and ending of the series were mediocre in my opinion and i found myself skipping it all the time. But of course, judging openings and ending songs are subjective.
I'd more want to focus on its OSTs and how it is used in the series. I would say that throughout the series, the OSTs were also mediocre and pales far in comparison to other OSTs from other anime such as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso with amazingly emotional OSTs such as "Yuujin-A". So yeah all in all its quality and its use of sound can only be argued as mediocre.
Character:9/10
I often find myself cheering the MCs on in this series, they each have their flaws such as Sakurai's lack of confidence when it comes to hitting on the female MC, and Morioka's inferiority complex where she deems herself as inferior to many other individuals and choosing to interpret their words and condescending comments made at her. However, behind its flaws were really attractive personalities that were pleasant to watch.
As i also said, with Net-juu no Susume being only a 10-episode anime, it lacked the time to delve into issues that the characters faced. Most of the issues merely scratched the surface and were superficially addressed. This made the characters seem borderline shallow.
However, taking into account the fact that it had 10 episodes, it did sufficiently well, and i could say this because i did find myself being really attracted to the characters and thus, i'd give its characters a 9/10.
Overall: 8/10
I highly recommend this series if you want something relaxing and chill. Its romance is cute and its characters are attractive. More work could be done to further develop its characters and not resolve their issues in a lacking amount of time and in a shallow manner. Overall, KAWAII ROMANCE THAT I QUITE ENJOYED.
