Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
This has got to be one of the most disappointing shows of this season. I was very late into watching this anime so I decided to marathon all 10 episodes today. Story: (5/10): The story is basically about a man and women who had played a previous MMO in the past, and coincidentally reunite with each other digitally again, and physically for the first time. They eventually get to know each other and then it becomes a rom com. Not a bad concept, but the way they set the tone is what pisses me off. Most of the events that set the tone for other eventseither happen because of how staged the events are, or by pure coincidence.
Art: (6/10) The art style is not bad, I like the different color palettes that distinguish the real world and the MMO world. I like how the character designs are also distinguishable by the 2 worlds; the ones in the MMO are colorful/fantasy like, while their characters in the real world are simplistic.
Sound: (6/10) I don't care about the sound. It didn't leave any impression on me. I watched this anime without acknowledging its soundtracks.
Characters: (4/10) Morioko is one of the most annoying characters in this show; she's always putting herself down because of how she thinks people see her as a NEET. She doesn't get out of that mindset until VERY late into the series. I know that Sakurai is suppose to be Morioko's sunshine, but his role is very repetitive and used in many romance anime that deal with a sad female protagonist. Personally Sakurai doesn't impact me in the slightest. I don't feel like any of the other MMO characters serve any purpose in the anime; they're just wasted character slots. Koiwai was a pretty cool character, I like his foxy personally and he serves many purposes in the anime; more than the main characters since he's the one who gets them together multiple times.
Enjoyment: (4/10) I didn't enjoy it as much. Every episode felt like a chore to watch, and so many other anime do a better job of conveying romance and comedy. Nothing in this anime left an impression on me because of how plain it was.
Overall: (6/10) It's not that the anime was bad. It's not interesting, and nothing stands out to make an impression on you.
