A case of a director performing miracles, Gimai Seikatsu, or Days with My Stepsister, is a name that sounds like a disaster but delivers really genuine and interesting relationships. First off, hats off to the production—direction, art direction, color palette, cinematography, character design, all of it... just wow. And also, what a captivating story. Such great characters! The ones that needed more time and depth got it. There were a couple that could’ve been fleshed out more (maybe they will in the future), but they were kind of left hanging at times. But when it comes to the main couple—their motivations, interactions, feelings, and surroundings—it wasfantastic. It was so cool to see those awkward and uncomfortable conversations between people who barely know each other and suddenly have to play the role of siblings.

I’m a big fan of slow-paced stories, so this was perfect for me. I enjoyed every moment unfolding at its own pace, with the main characters slowly realizing their feelings and doing everything they could to deny and suppress them. But how long can you really keep a complicated feeling bottled up before it starts eating you from the inside? I didn’t ask that question, but Gimai Seikatsu did and answered it. The answer was a bit different from what I expected, but it made total sense.

I’m really glad I watched Gimai Seikatsu, and my final impression was very positive. I’d definitely recommend this anime. Though I also know that people who can’t focus on something for more than 5 minutes will probably hate it... but hey, everyone has the right to be wrong.
