Review of CHOYOYU!: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World!
On paper, this show had a promising start. Seven talented individuals who specialized in distinct fields ended up in an isekai world for mysterious reasons where they use said specialties to improve society. When done right, it could have been an interesting exploration on human innovation and a commentary on social, cultural, economic, and political issues. The execution was a different story. On its own, the show wasn't able to conclude or answer most if not all of the mysteries it set up. It also wasn't able to fully explore the different issues the show directly brought up, especially since its main cast could have usedtheir varying expertise to input their perspectives on the matter. Speaking of the main seven, they were under utilized. Out of the seven protagonists, only two acted like main characters while everyone else was rarely present or doing anything remotely close to their specialty. Interestingly, one of the side characters from the isekai world seemed to act more like the average isekai protagonist that most of the actual main cast.
Artwork and animation were okay. Okay, but unmemorable soundtrack. Fanservice was present, but nothing special to further comment on (other than a certain scene that shouldn't be viewed in a fanservice lens).
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this show. It not only fail to conclude anything, but also fail to provide any thought provoking insight on the issues they directly and indirectly brought up. In a story about improving society, its lack of discussion turned me off.
