Review of Amnesia

Okay... I'm going to make TWO review parts based on two things. 1st review for those who HAVEN'T played the otome game, but want to see the anime. 2nd part is for those who HAVE played the otome game, but haven't seen the anime yet. (1st -For people getting into the anime without the knowledge of the Otome) Okay, here's the deal. I watched Amnesia before I played the otome game and that was a while ago, so my views on this part might be a bit cloudy, but let me just tell you this... most of you... are going to be VERY confused with the plot.The premise itself is simple, you got a girl with amnesia, who doesn't know what's happening in her life or her own name (you won't get to know her name).

However, the actual confusing part will be that she will end up in different parallel/alternate worlds. This anime being a reverse harem, the story will revolve around her coming to know a love interest in each world with a different scenario to face. The heroine just goes about this all, not really being too alarmed by the fact that not only does she have amnesia, but she's world-hopping also. The heroine herself is somewhat monotone, rarely talks, and will lack a personality. I know some people HATE this in a MC, but this was done purposely to keep the Heroine like a blank canvas for the viewers to easily paint her as something they want or even picture themselves as her.

Anyway, the Heroine doesn't go through this all alone, she'll have a young spirit guide to help her. But to be honest, besides telling the Heroine of her situation at the start, he provides zero help. He isn't seen by others, he can't even touch her or anything else around him, and is mostly there for moral support... or to be the shotacon of the series... idk xD

But talking about characters now, in each world, the heroine is paired up with one guy.

You'll see some harem tropes, especially character-wise.

We have a tsundere who is a calm silent type.

We have the hot and everyone adores type.

We have the smart and cool type.

We have a big brother type.

Then we have... a "mysterious" type.

Like the MC characterization, some will be put off by some of these tropes. However, when the main character dives into each of these worlds and gets to know each guy, you'll see that each guy has a problem/scenario that you normally don't see with these kinds of characters. Some might actually surprise you.

By the end of the anime, some of you will be scratching your heads or cupping your chin theorizing what this all meant in conclusion. For me, overall my enjoyment of this anime was mixed, the most downside being that I was so confused that it prompted me to actually play the otome game to see if it would answer some burning questions I had. But the anime did have me glued to the screen in interest. I really fell in love with some of the characters and was actually upset when the Heroine jumped to the next world, leaving the said character behind. So don't get too attached.

(2nd -For otome players wondering if this anime is worth the watch) *DON'T READ THIS PART IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME. POSSIBLE SPOILERS!*

After I played the otome, a lot of things became a lot clearer that's for sure. However, I've noticed things in comparison to the anime.

The anime adds and doesn't include certain things.

With the 'adding' thing, the anime basically added plots and scenarios that don't hold true to the game. In the game, you don't swap worlds with your Heroine having the knowledge that she swaps worlds, only you as the player know this. In the anime, she ACTUALLY knows about the different worlds and casually goes through the 'get to know the guys process' without considering her past worlds and associations, despite the fact she knows of them. She basically, in a way, has as much knowledge about this as Ukyo does, excluding some facts.

Orion isn't with the Heroine 100% of the time like he is in the game. Orion will disappear and reappear at random times, leaving the Heroine alone in different situations.

The anime will have favoritism toward certain love interests. I'm just going to flat-out tell you now, that any Kent fans will most likely be disappointed. Speaking of the love interests, all of them will have the same voice actors, so you'll feel right at home about that.

The story progression and plot... well... since this all is in a span of 12 episodes, you see very different things in each world in the anime. Some will end abruptly, some will keep the same premise as the game's stories but end on a different note. You won't get a lot of time with the characters, and the story goes at a fast pace, to squish in as much of the game's story into a 12 episode anime. As a result, things will come off... differently.

So basically, to any of you who played the game, but haven't seen the anime, expect a number of changes. Some of you may not care about this, and some may be irked about it. Personally, if you are a big fan of the game and fandom overall, I'd say go for it and watch the anime. However, if you are not adapt to change, then maybe the anime isn't for you.
