Review of Mob Psycho 100 II
simply amazing. superb characters, engaging plot, stunning art and a kind message. first off, the animation. holy shit, the animation is THE best I've ever seen. it isn't afraid to tackle divergent styles, yet even with all the different kinds of animation, it still retains its cohesiveness in style. deserves a 10 and more. now for the meat of the anime. nothing too out of the ordinary with the settings. the juicy bits are in the story & the characters. the characters are very, very well-written. at first glance, mob is an oblivious angel, but as you move further down the plot, you will recognize more to him. reigen isfun, but there is more to him than that as well. all the characters are fleshed out and beautifully crafted and not your usual shounen characters.
storywise: subversive af for shonuen, mob psycho chooses not to put the emphasis on leveling up as most do, but instead explores the strength of kindness.
most of the time, kindness is shown to be a drawback, only good for making trouble since the antagonists do not usually sport this emotion. but mob, one of the most powerful characters in this story, doesn't save the characters with his power. he saves them with kindness.
is it preachy? the anime definitely doesn't play out as didactic, but it gives you lots to think about, to reflect upon. it's filled with comedy, and if you will, you can ignore the underlying messages and still enjoy that one heck of a ride, but you would be missing out on the warmth and the heart of the show.
