Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
While it certainly has many elements of a generic revenge porn fantasy or the stereotypical isekai tropes, the first half and maybe even 3/4 of the show are mostly entertaining, making you kinda care about the characters. The 2nd half or last quarter reduces 2 of the characters in the main cast to just having the lines Naofumi-sama or Master and mostly does away with any interesting characters, dialogue, themes, motivations or narrative consequences to failure or similar things. The "revenge" or "redemption" plot line is not even payed off with a proper conclusion to them, but rather it decides to give punishments like a slap onthe wrist or sending team rocket into the horizon when characters are actually guilty and also being convicted.
It's honestly written in an infuriatingly nonchalant way which tells me this is a world without consequences.
So why is it a 7/10 despite all it's flaws?
Mostly the soundtrack by Kevin Penkin, sexy jazz and the enjoyment i got out of the first half when there was expectation and a promise (that they failed to deliver on).
Should you watch it?
Eh...if you really like isekai then maybe, if you want well written characters that aren't cartoonish or a genuinely good story...maybe not.
If you want sexy jazz 2 great EDs and other good OST maybe consider it or just listen to it on youtube.
it's closer to a 6.5/10, but rounding makes it a 7 i guess
