Review of Dorohedoro
When a friend first recommended Dorohedoro to me, i was very skeptical and reluctant to watch it for two reasons: 1) 3D animation: I really hate 3D anime and at first I thought the show was going to be unbearable because of it. 2) Horror/Gore genre: im not a fan of horror/gore anime (the only one i enjoyed watching before Dorohedoro was Parasyte) so when I saw the genres at MAL I thought it was gonna be another unnecessarily violent anime that I wouldn’t like. Well, it turns out i was absolutely wrong. First of all, the 3D animation is not only really well made so thatyou actually grow used to it during the series, but it actually is a charm that makes some scenes even better than it would as a normal 2D.
More importantly, all the violence and gore suits perfectly in the world of Dorohedoro, where death and blood is but a very common thing. The horrific environment makes monsters, corpses, and carnage just another element of daily life, so its not just a bunch of unnecessary drama thrown at you for no reason. The horror is so normalized in the anime that most comic scenes (Dorohedoro is actually a comedy more than anything, believe me) are built over something grotesque.
The best part of the anime are the characters. Every single one of the main characters are really interesting, cool and funny. I can’t remember of any other anime with such an extensive list of such well built characters.
In conclusion, the anime is definitely worth your time and even though i never read the manga (which is said to be great), i heard the adaptation was really well made and im looking forward to the second season that may come if the first one is successful enough.
