Review of SSSS.Dynazenon
incomplete CWs for SSSS.Dynazenon: sui*, child death, graphic city destruction/disaster, being crushed alive. SSSS.Dynazenon is easily the best twenty-two minute episode length series Studio Trigger has done. It takes it's predecessor's strongest asset of toku reverence and runs with it. Where SSSS.Gridman was a held back in it's scenario and character dynamics by needing to directly reiterate toku Gridman, Dynazenon is completely unburdened. SSSS.Dynazenon effortlessly weaves an impressively concise and down-to-earth ensemble character drama into a very simple monster of the week format. While the Trigger has struggled with crafting characters with compelling motivations and distinct personal arcs, Dynazenon is a revitalizingrelease for the studio in its whimsical but earnest tone. The toku monster and mech moments are so joyful and earnest without being too concerned with mold breaking. Meanwhile, the core ensemble is an incredibly thoughtful cast of partially realized and struggling young people without turning too hard the caricature often found in coming of age type narratives. SSSS.Gridman and toku Gridman are not required pre-reqs for Dynazenon, but I recommend catching SSSS.Gridman at least and coming around to toku when you can.
