Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3
Finally nailed down it's pattern and although I still love what this anime used to be, it's remains slightly disappointing. Let me start by saying, the plot is amazing without a doubt. But comes with a couple of flaws in it's world building. 1. Character dump. So many characters are introduced all the time with ability, specialties and skills that could already suit current characters. Having a handful of characters with well written character arcs, always beats consistent introductions even when they aren't needed. It's interesting but only for a while. 2. A peculiar way of introducing characters. This anime introduces fine mature women, discards them, thenreplaces them with a loli. Not so say there aren't any interesting characters in the party, but when there's too much of the same character type, questions start to pop up if the writer just has a fetish for this character type. In short, diverse characters are thrown away for the exact same character type over and over again.
And am I the only one who feels like some of the most interesting waifus are being distributed with the other heroes?
3. Protagonist and other heroes grow less significant with each season. Everyone's growing stronger, everyone's getting special powers, it feels like the power balance has shifted significantly since the first season.
It feels like the writers came together and said; Oh, here's an idea, why don't we make all the other heroes go through the exact same trauma from the exact same woman as our protagonist. After all, that won't steal from the story. It takes nothing from the most critical moment of his character development if we make everyone else go through the exact same thing in one season.
Although Naofumi still has his title and skill as a 'legend', it feels like side characters and even random characters are starting to steal the show. From skills, to unique abilities, to character development, to story; there's less and less that sets him apart as the 'star' of the show. It's a steady downward decline each season.
