Just based on what is present here, the story is already pretty good. The bond between the two MCs are strong and free from toxic bullshit, and the art looks really nice. I do enjoy how the story uses the future as a framing device; not only does it make for a nice contrast to the high-spirited past, it also creates a safe anchor. The story is free to heighten the tension in the past PRECISELY because we as readers know that the story will end up happy. The alpha seme is also pretty nice, as far as alphas go. He's treating the omega uke well, andhe never forces himself to the omega. I wish we got to see a bit more of his background, but that's a minor complaint.
A bigger complaint for me is the plot structure. The writing is more than capable of using a better structure, or at least tweaking the structure they're using.
The first volume works better because the yankee romance past clashes nicely with the wholesome family life present. But the second volume feels sadly generic. The future only comes off at the last chapter, so for the rest of the volume everything just goes through the generic plot beats of a second volume BL.
There's anxiety about the future, there's a new unnecessary love rival / villain that wants the uke, there's even a misunderstanding and a kidnapping before a dramatic rescue. Everything is played VERY straight aside from the climax, and the result is painfully skippable, including the third act villain that now has his own story.
I wish the story can just flesh out the main characters and the cast instead of forcing a generic drama, but eh.
