I'll admit the first half is a very different tone from 0079 and Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam is a lot more lighthearted and comedy focused. I'm not really a fan of older comedy anime but trust me when I say the second half of the series more than makes up for the beginning. Around episode 20 or so the tone becomes a little more serious and the major overarching plot of Gundam starts moving forward again. Some of the best moments moments in Gundam are there in my opinion. People often write off ZZ Gundam but I fully recommend it and if you're still skeptical it'sworth to go through so you can watch the amazing Chars Counter Attack movie and finish up the Universal Century timeline!
