On today's episode of "Romance That Deserves the Fantasy Tag," we have Otagal! And that's not a bad thing. Sure, the premise is unrealistic, but so is reincarnating as a hero's rib... and that didn't stop anime from adapting it. Wish fulfillment is a valid form of entertainment. Otagal is far from the slop you might be expecting. Our MC, Seo, isn't a loser; he's just an otaku who hasn't had many interactions with girls, and consequently he's awkward. But even over the course of three episodes, he's been able to open up and express his interests. Ijichi and Amane also have very different, well-defined personalities, and each has her own dynamic with Seo—while retaining a life outside of their interactions with him. It's one of the show's greatest strengths.

There's also no trashy drama involved between Ijichi and Amane. They maintain a healthy relationship and keep things light-hearted, which I appreciated. Domestic Girlfriend this is not; Otagal is a rom-com through and through.

Overall, I'd say Otagal is a notch below My Dress-Up Darling but on par with this season's I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in Class. If you like the premise of a withdrawn loner getting pulled from his shell by one or several popular girls, then check this show out. The OP is a banger, the visuals (especially Ijichi) are breathtaking, and there's even a good supporting cast. Oh, and there's no clear best girl, so have fun shipping either pair!
