Review of Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom
"Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom" , this title brings back memories. The series itself has everything you may want : a good storyline with some unsuspected twists, evolving characters and good interaction between them, great soundtracks and animation quality. The story starts with the main character waking up in an unknown place and finds himself being chased by some masked girl that tries to kill him. Having an amnesia , the only think he does is rely on his survival instincts and tries to get away, but he is soon forced to face the girl. He manages to pin her down , disarms her but doesn't killher. He then gets recruited by some mad doctor that makes assassins and from that...good luck with finding out.
The story itself is pretty solid, and even in the moments when you think that "it's pulled out of the writer's butt" ,if you stay and study it a bit , those guys are professional killers with high level of training so things like that are simple for them, especially in anime. The think that this series present is how different people take different paths to later claim the same goal, how the characters who find themselves ins similar situation try to pull each other out of the hole, how having nothing left to lose make yourself not caring about anything and how going gaining a reason to live makes you want to get others like you to get one too.
The characters development is really good. In this anime all characters change their mind sets to get accustomed to the situation. They will still aim for the same goal but the way they approach the problems will differ.
The art is great.I like the way the characters and their clothes and equipment is drawn. Also the animation is really good : especially the fighting scenes are really fluid and the angles at which the action is presented is adding to my enjoyment. The facial expression of the characters is the right one for each one of them.
Again another great think : soundtrack. It's just great. Except the first ending song which seems to me a bit too out of place , I listen to every single one of them. Not only they sound good , they are in the right place. You wont be hearing a boring song in the middle of a fight.
I really liked this anime. If you are into drama or thriller genre you will love it. Also if you like action you will surely find yourself saying "Just one more before I go to sleep" and get yourself to marathon it. Actually...you can be into any kind of genres and this anime will appeal to you. I like to think that the ending of the anime is left open like..."That's it guys , we ain't making another season but...that doesn't mean that's how the story ends...make up your own!"...or that's the way I think...
