Review of Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
im only writing this to have a record of my experience right after watching this so my opinion is very raw Anyway: movie was really bad and did not even come close to my expectations (which werent that high in the first place because id heard the eva rebuilds were not great and you shouldnt expect a good movie by itself, going into it) the story is (practically) disconnected from anything prior to the movie, shinji has no idea whats going on the entire time and neither do i, none of the characters really... do much during the movie?? its all set up already and theyjust kind of wait it out and talk
i started watching the movie with high expectations regarding only one thing: kaworu !!!! and i was disappointed soo disappointed because like the rest of this movie's cast, he appears in front of shinji with no real explanation and then does absolutely nothing except some ominous shit or whatever...-_-
most people going into this movie have heard/seen the Piano Scene which to be fair was not bad at all and was kind of nice, like this was the content i want when i think of a retelling of evangelion: i want something refreshing and different, that has no place in the original series and could show me another side of the characters. and while the eva movies do just that in some occasions (especially in 2.0), here its done chaotically and without thought ?? i noticed shinji doesnt for one second stop and think about what hes even doing and WHY hes doing it.. and it was oh so annoying
so basically i hate to break it to myself but the piano scene that can be found on youtube is not a reason to watch the entire movie. if ur reading this and you love kaworu (like me ^^) then yeah, you might even enjoy some parts of the movie and should watch it if only for the kaworu parts, but dont expect it to be anything more than a couple nice moments and mostly a big disappointment.
