Review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass seems to be an incredibly divisive show. One scroll through the reviews and we get a clear binary of 'INCREDIBLE!!' vs 'THIS SHOW IS NOT THE MASTERPIECE EVERYONE SAYS IT IS :@'. I went in having seen the first episode about a year ago and thinking it was messy as hell, thus never retried until recently. However, I am really glad that I did give Code Geass a second chance. I'll summarise my review in little categories, so here goes: Story - Firstly, the basis of the show is a very good idea - a world in which Japan has been taken over by thenation of 'Britannia' is a very interesting idea and makes for a very unique storyline. Watching Lelouch's journey to defeat Brittania is riveting, however the story isn't seamless. It's incredibly fast-paced and something important can happen in the span of 30 seconds which can be easily missed, so this is definitely an anime you should pay all your attention to. There are also a multitude of things happening on the side at once, so it can get a little messy, however the overall quality of the story and it's intricacies should make up for this.

Character -
The characters are AMAZING. For a show that has so many characters, Code Geass really manages to give its characters multiple layers and truly makes each character stand out. The characters are very likeable too - I, personally, adore Lelouch and some of my other favourites include C.C, Rivalz, Lloyd, Kallen and Ohgi.

Overall, Code Geass is actually a reaally good show - maybe not THE BEST ANIME OF ALL TIME EVER but after you watch it you will see exactly why it's so acclaimed and influential. My only criticism would be it can be a bit too fast-paced and therefore can seem a bit messy, but persevere because its definitely worth it.
