Review of Hunter x Hunter
Let's get the overall rating out of the way: 10 out of 10, for sure. Hunter x Hunter is a whole experience and that's why, within its faults and weaknesses, gets to be a 10 out of 10 series. One of the strengths and one of the aspects I personally most loved in this series is undoubtedly the portrayal and building of human relationships. With such a huge cast of characters, enhancing and diversifying characters can be extremely difficult and even within some undeniable boring and generic characters, HxH is full of amazing personas with different quirks and dreams, different inner problems and growth path, world viewsand values. Most of the characters in this series are interesting and will grab your attention. In a fair way, the good guys and the bad guys are intriguing and very well written. In fact, I do believe the villains to be extremely well written and characterized.
The second strengths, and also an aspect very dear to me, is the outstanding building of relationship. This show is full of small interactions that help build and sculpt the values and believing of the main characters. Each relationship, small or big in equal way, is used as a way to learn and develop skills and knowledge, but also to grow and change as people.
Now, about the story. I really enjoyed the story overall, of course, if not I wouldn't have watched the whole thing. However, I think it has its own faults. The idea in itself it's nice, even thought it got lost the more the anime progressed. The story is pretty simple, a kid who wants to find his father and understand what was so unbelieving interesting about is profession to pick up his stuff and leave his own child, however what's most interesting and captivating about the story is the path that was taken to be able to arrive at the end result. HxH is extremely well written, the world-building is absolutely gorgeous, the depth of the story is insanely good and its flow is well paced, well, for the most part. For what it is, HxH is full of variety and surprise.
That said, some of the arcs can feel detached from each other, some are better then others but overall all of them are at least interesting. Toward the end, the pace starts to slow down and it's almost dragging itself.
Maybe it's on me, I may lack some kind of brain power, however, from time to time, I thought the story was showing some plot holes. I found a bit disappointing the lack of screen time toward some major characters, especially since the have such interesting stories and strength points, however to each their own.
The anime has a very very strong start that gets lost toward the end of the series, still, by the end I was so invested in these characters that I couldn't help but wanting to finish the series.
The first arcs get you so invested that by the end you end up having an emotional connection with the series itself.
Anyway I am pretty biased and I love anything and everything, literally, so maybe do not listen to me if you want a structured and unbiased review.
Overall recap:
- characters and relationship's building (10/10)
- plot and execution (8.5/10) - the plot in itself could be easily a 9, however the execution let me down toward the end
- art (9/10) - there were some majestic scenes, not gonna lie, overall it's a style that I enjoy
- sound and music (8.5/10) - as many said, some misuse, in general well done, I liked the music
- enjoyment (9/10) - I got bored from time to time, ngl
- overall (10/10) - I got so invested and attached, it did what it had to do.
Thank you and bye!!
