Review of Higurashi: When They Cry – Kai
A decent follow up to the original in my opinion. So...the show explains how the ARCs work this time around, which is definitely better than the first season where I was rather confused on what was going on and why I was seeing the some of the same characters come back over and over again. The show doesn't look overall that much different from the first season, obviously because it was only made a year later, but it's still decent enough. The ARCs themselves are MUCH longer, with only 2 ARCs than span this entire season versus the smaller ARCs that lasted a 4-5 episodes each in thefirst season. They're a lot more fleshed out here and actually connect like the ARCs did in the last series towards the end of its own run.
While this season isn't NEARLY as violent as the first season (which is why I still kind of prefer the first season over this on a bit), there are still some decently horrifying scenes that are still good enough for what they are.
Ending's...decent enough, I guess. I won't go into detail about it, but it's a good conclusion for all the characters rather than some, which is nice.
An okay sequel to the first season, and an alright season as a whole.
