Review of Plastic Neesan
The word I would use to discuss Plastic Neesan is this: Kinetic. It has the energy of a bouncy ball you've thrown at the floor as hard as you could. It's fast, sometimes loud, and you have no idea where it's going to go next. Plastic Neesan is a series of gags and jokes with a thin veneer of a setting draped over it in order to justify its own existence. beginning with the story, there is none. A group of girls who supposedly enjoy building plastic models get into reality-bending hijinks, though the plastic models are nowhere near thefocal point of the anime. Again, it exists only to justify the jokes it has to tell. And I must say it succeeds on this front, as I often found myself laughing at the sheer absurdist comedy unfolding before me. However, given this style, it is sometimes at risk of devolving into "le random humor", which was at its peak around 2011 when this anime was released.
Moving on to the art, it is simple but manages to leave room for unexpected changes in detail or style. While the story exists to justify the jokes, the art exists as part of the joke, as much of the humor is quite visual in nature.
The same can be said for the sound, which meets all the standards of quality, though it excels with vibrant, characteristic voice acting.
The characters are the strong point here, as they represent distinct archetypes and fulfill their roles as comedic drivers throughout the show. There aren't many characters here, so to choose favorites is a moot point, as the main trio already do so well. Overall, Plastic Neesan feels like they took all the gags from a longer anime and stitched them together into a YouTube compilation. I'm not complaining in the slightest, as I did have fun, but to make any greater claims of quality beyond this would be useless. All in all, if you find yourself with a half hour to kill, give this a shot!
