Review of Whisper of the Heart

The following short review will contain no spoilers. All in all, there's not that much to critisize about the movie. It has such a beautiful art and gives a positive and happy feeling of a slice of life movie. The story is from the beginning until the end very interesting and there is no thought like "man, how long is this still going?". Time flew when I watched the movie, and that is always a positive sign. The movie "Mimi wo Sumaseba" also presents a bunch of characters and their developpement. It is a romance anime and has a bit of a twisted story. The movie fulfillsits genre. It can be summarized as an emotional but also joyful story. There are sad and happy moments related to love, and this is how it should be: It is some kind of a roller-coaster of feelings. Also, if the movie would be analyzed, it would become clear that there are a lot of symbols which relate the elements to each other. That is a proof for a deepened story.

Unfortunately, nothing is perfect, and that is what I can tell about the end. In my opinion, the ending did not fit to the story due to the fact that it was way too cheesy and dreamily. I think that it destroyed the things the viewer went through with the protagonist. It was an irrational, childish acting. But maybe that is even how it should be: Kids are often a bit more unrealistic than an adult with life experience. That's why it is not such a big point to critisize.

To get to an end, the movie is really worthy to see. It is an interesting story of love, imperfection and the search for the future. It is not a movie for "tearjerkers", but for people who want to be emotionally touched and who are inspired by the feeling of youth.
