Review of Arakawa Under the Bridge
I watched this series before moving to Japan, and actually ended up living near the Arakawa River so the setting now has a familiar feel for me. This is a random humour anime with a bare bones story. The humour is very hit and miss. Sometimes I'd be cracking up, sometimes I'd just be sitting with a blank look or sighing. Humour being a bit subjective it's hard to judge this one. The setting is great, and the basic story premise is pretty creative. But there's not much one can do with the story premise and so it digresses into random humour based on thecharacters. For me some of the characters are great, others less so...which may in part be a culture thing.
I will say that the main protagonists are likeable and their interactions are one of the plus points to the series. It's definitely different to your run of the mill anime and for that reason it may be worth a try.
