Review of Gintama
Gintama, it's one of those anime where you initially think, meh it's a long running anime and you don't have time for it.I know i used to think that. Now, it's one of my top 10 favorite anime of all time. Why the change in heart, well my friends you'll find out why in a second. Firstly, Gintama doesn't have what you call an actual story, and while the synopsis might lead you to believe that there is one, the show is actually more of a slice of life comedy. While there are arcs, most are 2-4 eps and rarely exceed 10 eps. Even then, those arcs donot really have any major impact besides introducing other side characters and other events that leave only slight marks to the overall show. While the show mainly focus on the daily life of the Odd Jobs Gin-chan and his team, sometimes the show goes out of it's way to focus on other characters of the show, which is what makes it stands out over other shounen. However, when the time calls for the show to stop being comedic, it becomes quite emotional and action-packed yet still has the ability to maintain it's comedic nature without ruining the atmosphere, something a lot of shounen cant nail.
Next, the characters. There are way too many too list and talk about so i'll talk about how the show deals with them in general.
Each of the characters, even the main ones have some form of quick that the show will usually go out of it's way to shove into your face and use it for comedy sake, but when the story occasionally take a turn and calls for some action, their serious side will start to show up and surprise.
Art is something i can't really nail but i'll just say that the art style really reflects the comedic nature. When the show is light hearted, the art doesn't really stand out, but when the action scene calls, the art fully exposes itself and shows you how much effort they put into the series. On the flip side, when they want to save their animation budget, they'll use their artwork as an excuse to troll you.
Soundtrack is something i didn't really pay attention to so i can't really say anything.
Overall, you should give Gintama a try. Even tho the series is about 200 eps long, it's slice of life nature means that you can not be in a hurry and just watch like 2-3 eps a day, and when you think your sick of the comedy bam.
Action and emotional scene.
