Review of Gintama
Easily my favorite anime of all time. Watched every single episode for at the very least 5 times since middle school. Bought the full blu-ray after moving to Japan. The ending for the whole series was dragged too long but idc. There will not be another anime or TV show or entertainment in general that is similar to Gintama in any way. Gintama is the most unique anime. It stirs up your emotions so fkin much that most fans cried and laughed simultaneously in countless episodes. This alone is an attribute that most other animes do not have. Gintama teaches you what life is, coveringso many different life issues through exaggeration and seriousness and tears and joys in so many different but highly interesting ways that I simply cannot forget any episode in Gintama with ease.
Gintama portrayed each side character so well it is like Witcher 3 in games if you know what I mean. In Witcher 3 the side missions are actually fun and worth doing because they portrayed those side characters in such a detailed but not tedious way as if they were part of the main. This is exactly what happened with Gintama as well. Not just the major side characters. Even side characters that appeared for only 1 or 2 episodes were interesting. e.g., Nakamura Kyoujirou, Kameyama Duuke, etc. Every single side character is unique and vibrant and charming in their own way.
Gintama is most famous not for the main storyline but actually for the nichijou part (i.e., the side stories or just no story at all). I especially love the Hot Pot episode (an extremely hilarious way of portraying Death Note) and the Madao & Daigoro episode (an extremely sad and realistic story of the life and values of a homeless person). This is extremely rare in not just animes but also TV shows where people would just wait for the main storyline to come back. NO, Gintama fans would rather want the side stories to keep going and going for eternity.
Gintama is a mixture of comedy, tragedy, fighting, life lessons, sarcasm, kindness, empathy, inspirations, and pure joy.
Gintama does not have to be rated as the top 1 anime ever, but Gintama deserves to be the most unique anime ever.
Gintama is not for everyone. To assess whether or not you would enjoy Gintama, start by watching Episode 25. If you like it, you can watch Gintama. If you hate it, you will not enjoy Gintama.
