Review of Akira
[STORY:10/10] Akira does well through most of its run-time to be a compelling, unforgettable piece of cinema, but unfortunately, it isn't able to fit all six volumes of Akira into two hours, and understandably so, as it would be impossible without an anime series to cover everything. Even under these circumstances, it makes its own lane and does the best it could've possibly done. [ART: 10/10] Some people don't enjoy the art present in older anime, but I find it to be aesthetically pleasing personally. And this is a well-budgeted project, so its no wonder it looks better than it contemporaries. Such impressive visuals for itstime.
[SOUND: 10/10]
Sound is used magnificently in this movie, making this setting feel real to those witnessing it on the screen, engrossing them into the atmosphere the creators have worked so very hard to create. Their hardship paid off.
[CHARACTER: 10/10]
Many interesting characters are introduced throughout and they come together to create a great cast that fits the theme and setting of this movie. Tetsuo and Kaneda's dynamic is very compelling.
[ENJOYMENT/OVERALL: 10/10]
Like I stated above, the only thing lacking is the missing parts of the story, but other than that, I loved watching this film. This movie is so iconic and epic in scale, I'm not at all surprised by the influence it has had over the years. Akira will forever be solidified in pop and animation culture for what it has done for the medium and that is something I'm happy to know.
