Review of Akira

I understand the significance of Akira to anime and the cyberpunk genre as a whole, but frankly I do not necessarily understand what about it people really enjoy, especially in the more modern era of anime and manga. What I think the movie really struggles from is trying to fit SO much content (71 chapters) into one two hour movie. The soundtrack is absolutely iconic, and the animation is far ahead of its time. But the condensed version of the story doesn't give you enough time to really care about anything or anyone in the movie and it jumps around enough that it left mescratching my head going "Oh... well, that was a thing that I just watched."

Overall, I'd say it's a fine movie, but really... just fine.
