Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
What a ride and what a show! Anime Review Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of those great anime before 2000 that I was not interested in, heard they were good, got hooked after 3 episodes and left a mark onto me, possibly forever. The story while seeming complicated at first, it only gets more clear and intriguing until the end.The characters get their personal development right, the pacing is very well spaced out and I totally fell in love with the characters and their personalities. The art is just beautiful, with good animation and a distinct look it still hold up until this very day. The colours are trulymesmerizing and everything has a good contrast between them.
Sound is another nail that gets hit spot on, from the opening theme that's emblematic (so much that is my ringtone), to the actual sound of the show, the voice cast carefully chosen and delivering a good performance and the Classical music that makes everything more tense in the end.
Characters are well thought out. Each get an introduction in which you see if you hate or like them, but then you are presented with their past and see what made them what they are in the end, you can't not sympathize with them or feel their pain.
With such great points it's clear the enjoyment was high and I had a good time, but this was much more than that, this was a show that changed me for the better and made me a fan of the series.
Before I begin with the end, I need to list what I didn't like. I know Gainax was going through some money issues, but the last two episodes while not bad, the production value and animation suffers, that's why I gave it only a 9/10. Maybe we would have gotten even a different ending all together if they didn't have those issues. That's probably my only major flaw with the show, but happily the movies should fix that issue.
Overall, this show is still relevant 20 years later in the world of anime and sits there in history with the greats like Cowboy Bebop and Sailor Moon while being totally different shows. It was a pleasure watching this masterpiece and I hope you will at least try it and come as impressed as me. <3
