Turn A doesn't preach about morality. It's not about a kid learning responsibility during a war and growing up. The core of Turn A is how people are fucking stupid on the organizational level. Military disobeys its government because they think they know better. Multiple factions arise fueled not by lust for power but their genuine worry for their people. This isn't typical for the franchise where each side appears to be monolithic (unless you're the "bad guy" then you're doomed for double crossing closer to the finale) Tomino here wrote to his strength. While Loran is a simple character, he is surrounded by an amazing supporting castthat often carry the show.

There are some pacing issues in the second half but such is a fate of 49 ep show.
