I don't know what compelled me to watch this in 2020. I felt like I sort of remembered hearing the title sometime in the past, and it just pulled me in inexplicably. For those of you wondering if it's still worth a watch, I'd say it depends on your palette. If you take your anime too seriously and can't find enjoyment if any part of the show is silly/unreasonable/over-the-top, then you most likely will end up hating this show or not finishing it. Personally, I was actually on the edge of my seat throughout the entire first season. One thing Code Geass did really well wasconvey the deep rooted emotions of the characters. Some are fueled by rage and a lust for revenge, others by a desire for peace and happiness. The conflict that builds between the central characters comes to a pulse pounding conclusion that I can only describe as epic. Geass holds up pretty well by today standards. The character models drew a fond similarity to YuGiOh, and the dub voiceacting was certainly a strength that propelled the urgency and intensity of the show. These characters will stick with you.

Are there tropes galore? yes. Are there perhaps borrowed concepts from other popular anime? yes. Plot holes and corny dialogue can also sometimes plague the show. However, if you're like me, you'll be able to look past these less significant details and enjoy the show for what it is - action packed, humorous, and touching at the right moments.
