Review of Black Rock Shooter
So this has took me five years to actually finish the show Black Rock Shooter despite it being only eight episodes. Back then, I just couldn't bring myself to watch the dullness of the show's entirety. Reason's to watch, Hatsune Miku and because it's Anime. When I tried the first episode, the show didn't really have a place and I was looking forward to Miku (but there was no Miku except the opening song). I guess we can say that for some viewers, I feel that Miku overshadows the Anime for some folks (like me). At another point, the song created the Anime and theAnime made the song (more alive in a certain perspective.) The whole confuses me when trying to go back and forth from what is what but here we go:
"Miku. Is. Not. Black rock shooter. THEY ARE NOT RELATED IN ANY WAY. Black Rock Shooter is an anime. Miku just sang the opening. HUKE created BLack Rock Shooter, and someone, inspired by the picture, created a song for her. Once again. BLACK ROCK SHOOTER. IS NOT. MIKU."
Now that I am back and I successfully watched the entirety of Black Rock Shooter (TV), the show isn't that bad. Just overall (7/10) because of the dullness. Like, I can't really describe it but I would give it a 9/10 but then the show didn't reach my reasoning and the only word that I can think of after finishing it is 'dull'.
There are parts that are lovely in the story line. Although they just kept mashing into a wall that built frustration within' me about the connection between the girls of trying to attain "friendship is real" and "what exactly are they trying to do here?" It was like a prolonging of trying to get a sense of reality but at the same time to point out between the action to drama (which I didn't really mind) but it just took a long time to get to the point for eight episodes. To compare this anime, I would compare it to "A Silent Voice" because of how annoying the characters are and all the background stories of each character. Though, A Silent Voice (the anime if you haven't seen it yet) is a much better show and more heartfelt. The heartfelt part of BRS is how real the character's emotions are even if they are a bit wonky.
What sticks out to me most is how there is a solid "an internal conflict of fighting your own war" and "you are not alone." I say it is solid because that frustration that I felt is because I can't understand why do these characters seem like a bunch of idiots that can't get their shit together. Besides that, there also comes in the what I would call 'supernatural/fantasy world' of the BRS that is what makes the Anime seem like a joke because the BRS world is in CGI and gradually the show feels like "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica." They didn't put in much scenes of the BRS magical world. To put it this way, if you haven't seen the show yet, they have two different worlds where it was built with belief. I think of the belief as a gathering of energy to create more energy of a certain type of energy. That is how I believe that the intentions worked it's way in the story to create that world. By the eighth episode, things were pieced together and it was just an "ohhh" type of moment and a bit of "ouu" because of how it ended with the break off between the two worlds. I mean, it didn't really break off but the solution to all that happened from episode one is finally over with' having to involve to the build up of about six characters internal conflicts being pieced.
Overall, what I remember is that there are some psychological torture(drama), supernatural appearances, school-life, slice of life. Let's be honest, BRS is a pretty great slice of life. Slice of life because that is how life is sometimes for some folks in real life. Pretty dull. And at most, people do the most questionable things which is why when a mind is broken, things are dragged out for humanity. The psychological torture that came with it is that part that dragged about the story, I feel. Like, shit went down the gutter. :) But that is what made the story to what it is. So, it's great to pick at and wonder what is life!
To me personally, listening to Supercell's song Black Rock Shooter, I can see how thing's came about. As to the two different worlds and internal conflict. The conflict is one of the same, for it is pain. While the two different worlds could be like a connection of the song and the listener. Where if you listen to Vocaloid and the song meaning, they took the meaning of Black Rock Shooter as a savior to those certain people (girls). And hilariously what got me most and is probably off topic but the show reminds me about a girl that is on her time of the month and just how girls live in general. Life can be hectic but right, that doesn't mean to give up or look down. Anyways, back to topic, BRS being the savior it is whether in song or Anime, it conveyed 'saving' and 'loving' that "I don't want you to hurt" and "let us aim for the stars!"
This is my first written review and I'll come back to add more, if so?
