Review of KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3
Season 3 signals it's time to get stabbed in the head again with whatever shenanigans these 4 idiots are up to. While not as funny as Season 1 and 2, KonoSuba Season 3 still packs pretty good punches with what is has to offer. The Princess Iris arc was definitely the highlight of the series; the fact that Kazuma and co got away with "how not to catch a thief" is truly worth the watch. Next up we have Darkness whose character gets the spotlight. Kazuma actually advocated fighting against forced marriage this time, an unexpected contribution from an upside down gender equality advocate. Thevalue of friendship shines through, as this band of adventures stick together through thick and thin no matter how dumb/illogical each character is. Truly a great example of thinking on your feet and outside the box to help those around you.
The biggest problem with this season is how short it was, lack of concrete events to focus on, and half-baked humour. Seriously, adapt more than 2 or so light novels for each season! You can't cover everything in just 11 episodes, plus missions of focus in season 3 didn't have high stakes as the ones in season 1 and 2. While I get it Eris/Chris wants to steal treasures from the castle, the relevance of these items were not explored thoroughly enough . Eris needs more purpose than simply showing up from time to time, make her character more meaningful! There are occasional moments that will make you laugh, but this season plays it too safe compared with season 1 and 2. The best jokes come from Kazuma and Darkness, but I wish there were more funny moments from Megumin and Aqua. What happened to all the ad-libbed "yes, yes, I'm Kazuma" jokes and all of that unexpected stuff that makes viewers laugh?
Despite a surprising lack of sharp jokes this season, I still recommend it for wholesome moments and giving viewers good insight into Darkness' life. I believe greater things are to come when future light novels get adapted. As always when watching KonoSuba, detonate all your anger, boredom, and sadness away with a big explosion. Solve problems with explosions first, ask questions later. Megumin's got you covered.
