Review of Ya Boy Kongming!
There is very little that can be said about this show which is not overwhelmingly positive. I'm not sure what else to say other than you should watch it if you haven't already. It somehow takes a played-out, absurd premise, and turns it into one of the most realistic and grounded animated stories I have ever seen. You will walk away from every episode thinking about the characters' struggles like real people's struggles, because quite simply they are real struggles. Even background characters look like they're real people pulled off of a city street and digitized. The setpieces likewise. The writers actually have to keepreminding you of the fantastical premise, because with the exception of his speaking mannerisms and getup, you will forget very quickly that the plot began because of a second-century Chinese tactician who was transported to modern-day Tokyo.
