Really good animation, some cheesy/cringy dialogue here and there. It's kind of fair to say Makoto Shinkai just keeps on making the same movie because this doesn't stray far from the formula that he's been following for the past two movies. Natural disaster followed by a sacrifice from one of the main characters that leads to a rescue. Play main theme. A lot of the film's problems comes from what I think is a time constraint issue and they understandably had to pick and choose which parts to emphasize to deliver on the message of moving on from tragedy and not giving up on life. Takesa big toll on the romance and fleshing out of the characters, and leaves a lot of weird unanswered questions here and there. The development comes off as a bit unnatural, but the scenes that are done well are really hype.
