Review of Haibane Renmei

Haibane Renmei is not meant for everyone. It is very particular and unique when it comes to developing itself. It's a series that starts slow, but for the purpose of understanding the world and the characters first. The pacing also allows you to become familiar with the world and the environment where the story takes place. Haibane Renmei is the beautiful search for the meaning of oneself and the understanding of our existence. It's an expression of the constant wondering of man for his soul; the search for that which he can finally feel fulfilled. Every human being is on that same journey whether weare aware of it or not. And in that journey, we try to find the purpose of our existence. Why is it that I exist? Why am I here? Is there a purpose for my existence? If so, why do I suffer?

Haibane Renmei is a journey of suffering, of joy, of love, of tragedy but even more than that it's the story of our life journey and trying to understand who we are and why we exist. It touches upon the principles of human nature and the desire to be able to separate ourselves from that nature; to become pure and free. But what if I'm not able to be free? What if I'm just this suffering, this pain, which comes from me? What if this is the one reality and there is no salvation for me?

This show strikes questions that open even more questions about our own deepest selves. It is a beautiful story about finding that freedom within ourselves but, more than that, it is a story about helping others become free and in that process finding fulfillment within you. Because by helping others, you help yourself. By being selfless and expressing unconditional love, you become that love. We can walk each other home. We can all go to the source together.
