This is my first review, so please be understanding. :) This is a manga I picked up on a random occasion, just to read something and see if it was interesting and wow i was surprised by the depth it offered. The first half starts out very bland, you follow this overused overpowered blank slate mc who takes down all evil in his way and tries concealing his own abilities at school because he's just so mysterious. (so like every power fantasy manga ever) this is also followed up by some bland extras for characters. But then something happens around halfway reading this. It starts to...get... kinda good? So you keep reading and the character start becoming fleshed out and the mc seems to have a deeply troubled past and has actual reasons why he is the person he is now. the writing gets better and so do the visuals, it seems like the author was always this skilled but made a bland manga just for the money, and when he got creative control actually brought out good writing. The side characters get fleshed out and the group becomes very close emotionally, this manga also deals greatly with trauma and weaves in great visual representations that come with it. and it doesn't seem like it will stop soon because it has a lot to tell!
I would like to apologize if this review just seems like me rambling incoherent nonsense, but just read it for yourself and don't look at the average score because i think this score is accurate for the first half. if you like power fantasy stories with actual good character writing, backstories and lore, then start reading this manga.
ratings for all the stuff:
art: 9/10
Can be little bland with the character designs but more than makes up for it with just the general consistency in the spreads.
story: 8/10
As i said before, starts off really fucking bland like dry bread dipped in sand bland but gets surprisingly good.
characters: 8/10
Honestly they really grew on me which is a little emberassing but it says a lot.
for me?: 8/10
EDIT: The rest of the manga chapters have come out and i'd like to say the ending wasnt to my taste. it felt like it had this whole ''friendship saves the day'' vibe to it which i feel i very overdone in this day and age and especially manga and anime. but it was still a very fun read overall plus i really liked the backstory of the villain and how it tied into the main plot, just not really how they defeated him. if i may say so i personally always like it when the villain gets defeated because of a small mistake and not just who can deus ex machina the most but i would still say the 8 will keep standing.
