Im a big fan of Shimamoto's work I think hes probably the closest thing one of the original manga kings(Ishinomori in this case) has to a successor unfortunately this just isnt very good. His eye for striking minimalist high contrast visuals and big impact visual symbolism makes for some fun pages but Unfortunately the story is just not their. Its a bad mismatch of a gambling manga and a espionage book that cant find a good middle ground. Of the 8 chapters present theirs hardly enough of the actual crime aspect going on here inbetween very generic mahjong duels lacking in the absurdist visual metaphorthat makes something like 81 Diver stand out and barren of all bits on inner character monologue and struggle. Death Pie is also just a really silly name for this especially when its focused more on mahjong than its infernal affairs setup. Not Good
