Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight · review
I don't understand why this show bothered to change main characters. The first characters where sufficient and the change is confusing. Starting with some confusion about reintroducing characters that were already known to Parn -Orson and his partner. I read somewhere it was because the manga took later than the series and they needed to round up the first season. Something quite common on Japanese production. Still, the discrepancies are very confusing for the viewer. I must say I was excited at first seeing the introduction of Parn and Deedlit again and I was dreading the moment they would go to the background. The already knownand well-loved heroes take secondary roles and leave the spotlight for Spark which is somewhat of a cheap copy of what Parn used to be. I think it'd have been better that Spark had a more defined personality as opposed to Parn, rather than look like his shadow. But to make this hero shine they make Parn change in an attempt to make the viewer disengage from their first hero.
I don't really understand the narrative purpose of this. It's never as good as the first time.
Also why did they change Deedlit personality so much? She seems to be colder to Parn and have this cool better than everyone attitude she didn't have in the first OVA.
I must say I appreciate the relationship between Little Neese and Spark. Perhaps plotwise it would have been better to develop in more episodes instead of making them froze with decision paralysis im a city for three entire eps in a row. The relationship between this two it is precious and even though she seems to take the place of Deedlit in many ways there's some strong roots in her character itself. More than Spark I'd say. The battle of a sacred child between their good and evil side as a form of possession and determination of the destiny of the world she's living in reminded a lot to Black Lady and Chibiusa from Sailor Moon :3
All in all, it's not a bad series at all. Even though I am not happy with the change in the cast as it seems unnecessary.
