Fire Force Season 2

Review of Fire Force Season 2

In the world of Firetruck Squad, individual human life is treated very cheaply. In a world where anybody can spontaneously die from a bad case of the explosions, anybody would become disenchanted with death. A lot of people die in this, and in some cases it's even played for laughs, like the guy who just wanted to wear sneakers. Honestly one of my favorite moments of dark humor in any show I've seen lately. Because death is so prevalent, it's a wonder anybody clings to life at all. It's amazing that a family would be so quick to want to pull their daughter away from fightingfires when she's in just as much danger at home, where fire could start at any time. That combined with the fact that she's stronger than all of them made it monumentally stupid to hold her back. I know it's supposed to be stupid, bird in a cage, blah blah blah. It's supposed to be representative of how we tend to treat women in real life, but this is supposed to be fantasy, so real life logic shouldn't apply, even to dumb characters in the show. Maybe I'm just sick of seeing pseudo-feminist propaganda shoved where it doesn't belong, a shounen battle anime.

Anyway I think a highlight of the season was the part where the scary looking guy with the evil arm turned out to have a heart of gold. Like, it's super messed up but it turns out that twisted personality is exactly what that kid needed, and I think on some level evil arm guy realized that. It seems like this show loves giving morally gray villains development into morally gray but mostly good people. I don't know how they're going to manage to do that with crazy fart toy lady but she'll probably be back as a member of Fairy Tail in the next season.

The second Nether arc was super dark. Beyond the boring bird in a cage stuff it had a ton of death and even though they stopped the big explosion they basically lost that conflict. It's crazy that they all just go back to the levity and jokes of everyday life after that with only Tamaki having any kind of trauma. Even she gets over it pretty fast. That's just the grim reality they live in. Overall I'll give the season an 8/10 better than Fairy Tail.
