Review of Trigun
This might be one of the few anime that really holds up. And my second ten/ten series. Trigun really is worthy of nearly all the praise you hear. I give Trigun my highest recommendation, the less you know I think the more you will enjoy it. But I will still lay out my thoughts for those interested. The animation is solid, the character writing is fantastic, the music is downright iconic. Everything about this show is as near perfect as you get, and whats better is that it shines through so well even a modern audience can still appreciate it. It's not without flaws though, the humor cansome times be a bit jarring but it gets smoother as the show goes on. Some times the animators take short cuts or make a mistake, but its nothing too extreme.
If I had one solid complaint its that the show's romance themes are a bit of a flop. We really didn't need to see a physical comparison between Meryl and Rem. It would have worked a lot better if they stuck to just the philosophical similarities. Also the ending is a bit weak, but I still enjoyed it.
On the upside, Trigun handles its other themes extremely well and isn't afraid to question them. It's a real rarity to see a show that is willing to do some real self reflection, that is willing to make both the hero and the villain make sense and have their moments.
The action is unbelievable, easily the best gun fights I've ever seen in an anime. Everything is well done and there's a lot of small details that are just a joy.
I think one of my favourite things is that Trigun also knows how to pace itself. To slow down and just let a scene or shot breathe.
Unlike a lot of newer shows that think if something isn't exploding or someone isn't screaming every five frames the audience will pass out. Trigun lends a real weight and tension to drama to just be able to hold a shot without music and just some minimal background noise.
I could easily recommend this to anyone who enjoys a darker more story driven series.
