Mouhitsu Hallucination · review
this is one of the more disappointing mangas i've had the displeasure of reading. the premise of a smoking hot mangaka who's basically the equivalent of an incredibly dedicated method actress and her assistants who put up with her because of the quality of her work could have been a pretty fun ecchi/SOL manga. unfortunately, that is not what we get. the few characters that aren't dislikable are the ones that have the least characterization, which isn't a good thing. the mangaka being a bit of a cloudcuckoolander mary sue wouldn't necessarily be bad, but the problem is that all the supporting characters suck allkinds of ass.
the MC, hirayama is an incorrigible pervert (and i mean a SERIOUS pervert. like the kind that actually made me think that he should be in prison lmao) who, while claiming to want to learn to be an amazing mangaka, can't stop thinking with his dick for more than 10 seconds and literally makes no progress towards his self proclaimed goal throughout the whole series. the mangaka, moriyama-sensei, is a passionate artist who feels the need to do anything to unlock the full potential of her manga, ranging from cosplaying to getting breast massages. she's a perfectly ok character, but she suffers from the weakness of the others.
then there's the chief assistant, whose role is the straight man. not much to say about her, her personality is just about nonexistent. lastly, the one rounding out the main cast (not including the 3 other characters who come into the story halfway, because they're not important 💯) is nanami, the high school girl who happens to be the senpai of the MC as an assistant to moriyama. frankly, she's annoying as hell. she's always shitting on the MC for being a terrible artist and a huge pervert (which, yeah, can't really argue with that). however, her constantly beating the shit out of him for little to no reason & her similar level of perverseness in regards to thirsting after/fondling women irritates me to no end. personally, i never liked the "violent man-hating harpy" trope in manga, but it makes it even worse that she's also a giant hypocrite.
this manga is... not very good. there's no progress in the story or the characters, and said characters are annoying as fuck. the one semi-saving grace of this thing is that the art is pretty nice to look at. it's nothing spectacular, but the boobs look good 🤝🏽
